Storyboard/ Commercial for Virgin Holidays

I wish it was a genuine commercial but alas, it was just another assignment. A very fun assignment though. We were asked to pick from a list of pre-chosen topics that included an advert for Virgin Holidays to be shown on television to make people book for summer, a new game developed by sony that was aimed at girls and a cream egg styled Mars advert where slogan was 'how will you get yours?'  Being the young jetsetter that i wish I was, I chose the Virgin Holidays idea.

The idea for my advert came quite quickly after just a couple of pages of planning. In my advert i would have a stressed and frustrated woman having the worst christmas of her life- the family isn't helping out, the turkey has burnt and falls on the floor and the christmas decorations are falling down left, right and centre.

She's distracted, now is my chance to escaaaaapppeee!!

Fed up and broken, she slumps to the floor which is where the slogan for the advert in Virgin's trademark red and white reads:

'Christmas may have been a disaster... But Summer doesn't have to be...'

At which point images of exotic, romantic and beautiful destinations including, Paris, Spain, Florida, Easter Island and many others (which Virgin Holidays has hotels and tickets to, see i did my homework) flash across the screen

 I wanted the majority of the pictures to look hot and warm since summer is the hottest part of the year (in every country but england it seems) and this advert would be aired in the winter months.

 The commercial then cuts back to the woman we saw at the start, who is now sat down carving a burnt and dirty turkey- but she's ok with that, this day can't get any worse can it? Well, it does. For comedic effect and to give poeple something about the advert to remember; the christmas tree then proceeds to fall down in the background. Which is when the woman looks down at her hands, which are holding the Virgin Holiday tickets. She knows she's going to have a great summer.

Overall i found this assignment very interesting. I enjoyed the concept of coming up with an advert for television and I think I came up with a plausible and realistic advert. This assignment made me really think about what i wanted to do after university, suddenly promotional advertising became an idea and joined the many other ideas of what i may want to do in the future.
